In 1990 researchers documented the structure and organization of an entire
bird community on a 100-hectare plot in in Manu National Park in
southeastern Peru. Professor Ari Martínez of UCSC’s Ecology & Evolutionary
Biology Department revisited the same plot with a team in 2018 to evaluate
community-wide change after 30 years. Martínez will highlight the findings
of this study and its implications for understanding how remote areas are
responding to local and regional changes due to human activity.
