Birding in Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz is one of the premier birding sites in the country.  Besides the Club’s Birding Guide and the Santa Cruz County Checklist, visitors may wish to consult Jeff Davis’ article on Songs and Calls of Central Coast Birds.

For an excellent article on Santa Cruz birding, consult Marti Selman’s piece, “Birding by the Bay.”  General information about Santa Cruz can be found on this site.

The Bird Group is a local group addressing issues concerning conservation of birds of prey and associated species, including their prey in the case of endangered species.

Santa Cruz County Visitors Council has an excellent website “Birding Adventures” with recent sightings, maps, checklists and videos of local birds.  In addition, there are seasons-specific lists of birds to watch for and a free Birding and Wildlife Watch Kit for Santa Cruz County.  The kit includes a map of birding and wildlife sites in the county, as well as a seasonal bird checklist based on records compiled and edited by David Suddjian and the Bird Club.
